CityU Undergraduate Programme Catalogue – Part I: 8.5-point scale explained, plus College of Biomedicine, Business, Computing, Engineering, and CLASS
Programmes are grouped under the current College / School structure at CityU. Listed below are all full-time undergraduate programmes admitting local Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) candidates through the Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS) for 2026 entry. Each entry shows the JUPAS programme code (JS1xxx), the main admissions score formula (best 5 / best 6, subject weightings), and the 2025 intake admissions scores (Median and Lower Quartile). Part I covers the College of Biomedicine, College of Business, College of Computing, College of Engineering, and College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS). For the College of Science, Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences, School of Creative Media, School of Energy and Environment, School of Law, and double-degree programmes, see Part II.
Data benchmark: 2026 Entry. Programme titles, JS codes, score formulae, and score statistics are all drawn from the CityU Admissions Office document Admission Score Formula and Admissions Scores for 2026 JUPAS (official version dated 7 January 2026).
⚠️ Important notes:
- Since the 2020s, CityU’s JUPAS programme codes have been standardised to the JS1xxx range (distinct from the older five-digit or JS1xxxx formats). Before applying, always confirm against the current-year JUPAS website and CityU admissions site.
- CityU has in recent years adopted large-scale broad-based admission: many programmes (e.g. JS1300 Bio3, JS1070 ACT, JS1200 GREAT, JS1040 CREATE) admit students under a single JS code, with stream selection or free choice of major after entry. Where applicable, the catalogue itemises the available majors/streams.
- The admissions scores shown in the table are actual 2025 intake statistics, for reference only; they cannot be used to predict the probability of admission in 2026. CityU explicitly states that “due to different subject weightings adopted by individual programmes, admissions scores should not be compared across programmes or across years” (paraphrased from the official PDF explanatory note).
- “Not confirmed” indicates that the author has been unable to verify an item from an official source; no data has been fabricated.
1. How to read the admissions scores: CityU’s 8.5-point scale
Before interpreting the scores in the tables below, one must first understand the new conversion scale adopted by CityU (and also by HKU, CUHK, HKUST, and PolyU) from the 2025 intake onwards (source: CityU official PDF※):
| HKDSE Level | 5** | 5* | 5 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Category A (core / elective) score | 8.5 | 7 | 5.5 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 |
That is, 5** is counted as 8.5 points (rather than the old 7-point scale). On top of this, each CityU programme applies weightings to designated subjects: common examples are “English ×2.5 / ×2 / ×1.5”, “Maths ×2.5 / ×2”, “Science subjects ×1.5”, and so on. Because the weighting multipliers differ, the “scoring basis” also differs — a best-5 programme with equal weighting has a theoretical ceiling of 42.5, whereas a heavily weighted programme may have a notional ceiling far exceeding that. This is why CityU repeatedly stresses that scores “are not comparable across programmes.” All scores shown in the tables below are accompanied by their scoring basis.
The Citizenship and Social Development subject (and the former Liberal Studies) is not counted in admissions scores (per CityU PDF footnote ∆). Admissions score statistics exclude applicants admitted through special routes such as “Other Experiences and Achievements”, “Principal’s Nominations”, “Sports Scholarship Scheme”, or “Special Admissions Scheme for Students with Disabilities” (per PDF footnote #).
2. College of Biomedicine
In the 2020s, CityU regrouped several biomedical-related departments from the former College of Engineering and College of Science to establish the College of Biomedicine, which now administers undergraduate programmes in biomedical engineering, biological sciences, and biomedical sciences.
| JS Code | Programme (with streams/majors) | Score Formula | Median | Lower Quartile |

JS1001 Global Business (GBS) and JS1000 Computational Finance and Financial Technology are its elite/specialist programmes; the former has a joint Bachelor’s arrangement with Columbia University.
4. College of Computing
In recent years, CityU spun off its computer science, data science, and related departments from the College of Engineering to establish a standalone College of Computing.

| JS1219 | BEng Innovation and Enterprise Engineering (Engineering / Technology / Innovation / Entrepreneurship) | Best 5 (must include Eng, Maths); equal weighting | 19.5※ | 18.5 |
JS1201 Architecture and Civil Engineering is among the highest-scoring College of Engineering programmes on paper (2025 median 43.5). This reflects its heavy weighting of “Eng / Maths / M1M2 / Phy ×2.5” — an arithmetic amplification of the raw scores, not that applicants’ absolute performance outranks all other programmes. See the “8.5-point scale” section above for context.

Criteria for future updates
This article is split from undergraduate-admissions.md and, together with Part II, constitutes the complete programme catalogue. Future updates will enter the main text based on only three categories of material: first, primary sources such as university websites, annual reports, faculty/department pages, and official regulatory or ranking bodies; second, verifiable facts from reputable media, student media, or public archives; third, public timelines that can explain institutional changes. Isolated screenshots, undated rumours, ranking slogans that cannot be traced to a source, or personal evaluations may only serve as leads for further verification and must never be written into the text as fact. When the University publishes updated admissions scores each year, update the tables college by college accordingly.
